What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Unlike a laser, which uses a single focused wavelength of light, IPL uses a broad spectrum of multiple wavelengths delivered in short, powerful pulses. These pulses of light are absorbed by specific targets in the skin — such as melanin (pigment), haemoglobin (blood vessels), or hair follicles — depending on the filters and settings used.

This makes IPL an incredibly versatile treatment platform, capable of addressing a wide range of skin concerns in a single device. The light energy is converted to heat at the target site, triggering the skin's natural healing and renewal process — reducing pigmentation, closing vascular lesions, destroying hair follicles, or stimulating collagen production.

IPL treatments are non-invasive, require no anaesthetic, and involve minimal downtime, making them suitable for most skin types and busy lifestyles. At Marr, we use the Lynton EXCELIGHT® — one of the UK's most trusted medical-grade IPL systems — to ensure safe, precise, and clinically effective results.

Laser Hair Removal

How many treatments will I need?

The laser targets actively growing follicles; since not all follicles grow simultaneously, multiple sessions are necessary. Most people need 6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, though up to 8 treatments might be needed.

Is laser hair removal pain free?

Most clients find treatment with the Cynosure Elite+ very comfortable. The system's dual-wavelength technology allows us to tailor settings precisely to your skin type and treatment area. A built-in cooling mechanism keeps the skin comfortable throughout each session.

Can the Cynosure Elite+ be used on all skin types?

Yes. The Cynosure Elite+ combines Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm) wavelengths, making it safe and effective for all skin tones including darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV–VI). During your consultation we will assess your skin and select the most appropriate settings for you.

Is a test patch necessary?

Yes, a test patch is essential. While adverse reactions are rare, we always begin with a test patch to ensure the laser settings are compatible with your specific skin type.

Can you undergo treatment year-round?

Yes, treatment with the Cynosure Elite+ can be carried out year-round. We will advise you at your consultation on precautions such as avoiding direct sun exposure before and after treatment and using adequate SPF protection.

Preparing for your treatment

Shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid waxing, plucking, or using depilatory creams for at least four weeks before the treatment, as these methods remove the hair root that the laser targets.

Semi-Permanent Makeup

What is eyebrow tattooing?

Eyebrow tattooing is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that uses pigment to fill in or shape the eyebrows. It can create the appearance of fuller, more defined brows and is often done using techniques like microblading or powder brows.

What are the different techniques?

Three methods: Microblading involves manually creating fine, hair-like strokes. Powder Brows use a machine to create a soft, powdered effect. Combo Brows combine microblading and powder brows to achieve a natural yet defined look.

How long does eyebrow tattooing last?

Eyebrow tattoos are semi-permanent and generally last between 1-3 years, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

Is it painful?

Most clients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area, making the process more comfortable.
